Fish Fanatic
I've recently aquired some fish that require very soft and acidic conditions (ideally gh 0-4 and ph 4-6). I've put them in a tank that used to house standard community fish.
I had set up the tank with many oak and a couple of catappa leaves and also filled it with a old ro unit which gives a ph of 6.5-7, kh 0-1(degrees) and a gh of 3-4, but even with the use of ro water and the leaves over a few days the ph rises to 7-7.5 and gh to 8-9. The only thing that I can imagin causing this is the old substrate which is mostly 'inert' aquarium gravel and a little play sand
Could there be any thing else causing the parameters to rise? I don't really want to change the substrate as I have quite a few plant in the tank and don't really want to upset the new house mates.
