should i use this stuff to water i will be adding to the tank??

does it actualy work??

I have hard water and i am not sur eif i should use this stuff.

I have have read that boiling water can get arid of the heavey metals? is this true??

Hi, yes you add it to water which you are going to put into the tank. It is essential. Chlorine will dissipate over time if the water is left in a bucket but chloramine will not. Also there may be heavy metals which must be neutralised. If you use a hose (if you have a large tank) it is said to be ok to put the dechlorinator in after you have finished putting water in. I use Stress Coat but there are many other brands which do the same thing. I had a free sample when I bought my first tank so I continued using it. I don't think boiling the water will remove heavy metals but I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. HTH :)

From everything I have ever learned, boiling water does not actually remove anything at all. The steam coming off the top contains only water, so any metals will actually become more concentrated as some of the water is removed. The only thing boiling water will do is kill bacteria. If you have well water this may be benificial but I doubt it would be worth the effort. If you do not have well water, you must use some sort of water conditioner to remove the chemicals the water treatment plant adds. Yes, it works.

ok thank you! I guess ill have to add the to my shopping list when i head over to petsmart.

btw is there a brand you would prefer or is better than another.

also, it thought that teh carbon helped to remove the clhorine??

maybe it just helps some??
