Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if it's harmful to "overdose" on water conditioner, namely Tetra AquaSafe. Would using double or so of the recommended amount be harmful? The reason I ask is the size of the bucket I'm mixing the water and conditioner in... it's quite small and the concentration of the conditioner makes it hard for me to get the right amount. :/

I'm new to water conditioning because I've always had well water, but I recently moved and we have town water that they dump -loads- of chlorine into. So an answer would be appreciated. :)

As far as i know i dont think u can really overdose on this kinda stuff... Unless youre being really silly. i.e 20 gallons of it into a 25 gallon tank... You get my drift? Anyone else confirm?? :X

I believe an overdose is 4X the recomended dose. I read that on here so yeah...

Hi Lisie :D

You know that you're meant to put in enough conditioner for the whole tank, and not just what you're changing?

It's usually about a capful for 50-75l, depending on what you're using. So just put in enough caps for the whole tank - if you need 3 & a bit, put in 4 - and it'll be fine.

Hope that helped!

I thought you only should put in enough for the whole tank if you are using a python or something where you cant treat it before it goes in the tank?

Thanks for the replies y'all. :flowers:

Really? I didn't know that. Why do you have to condition the whole tank if it's just the new water you're putting in that's got the chlorine and stuff?

That's not true. You only need to add enough conditioner to treat the new water, not all of the water in the tank.

And unless you're putting 10x (or probably more) too much, you're probably not going to cause a problem.
