Hey guys, I'm just about ready to purchase my very first betta :hyper: and have one more question before I go to the store.... exactly how do you do a 90-100% water change (will be using an unfiltered tank) without stressing out the fish too much?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

i use and air line tubeing and you can suck all the uneaten foods and poops that they do.
just stick it in the water suck on the tubeing and away u go

Just don't forget to take the fish out before you suck out all its water, though! Lol. I usually just catch my guy & sit him in a small container of fresh (dechlorinated) water with his plant & get to work on his tank.

Of course, now I know he's taken a liking to jumping, I'll also be three-quarter glad wrapping the top of his container as well as his bowl, lol!

:D ive got a jumper to witch is bad as he is in a divided tank with a male on the other side. i never new they could jump so high.
i would have thought he wouldnt be that great at jumping as he is a doubletail
-_- how wrong i was :p

Yes, jumping into another male's tank wouldn't be a good idea.....then again, neither was jumping 1ft and landing an inch from the edge of my desk  Still waiting to see if the silly guy's okay

depends on tank size: if its small, like those stupid betta bowls or a 1/2 to 1 gallon home, just place him in a cup with his old water and clean the WHOLE tank by pouring out the water and swirling the rocks clean of crap. then redecorate. If you know youre going to be changing water soon, its best to fill up a bucket/jug with tap water 2 days before cleaning. This guarantees no chemicals/Cl in the water-so now all you have to do is add a LITTLE tapwater conditioner if you even want to,instead of the full amount. I am not a big fan of chemicals if not necessary to use. Add fish as final step hehe oh yeah, keep eye on it for next hour or two. Active, colorful fish willing to eat means you did it right

Alright, you could put your betta in a diff bowl since it won`t be a prob to leave him in a small but accesible bowl for a while or so.Then if you`re getting a bowl, pour out like 50%,75%,etc. and if you have a tank,I would suggest a Gravel Vac?Alpha Wolf is also right,it mostly depends on size.Hope you a good future with a strong Betta! :flex:
