Water Changes

Hello again to 1 and all!

I am wondering about water changes this time. Currently, I am doin it the old fashioned way with a bucket and a hose...... every morning...... an other 10%....... an other bit of my sole dies. And since I only have a we bucket that fits nicely under the tank for easy access, it takes 2 goes, which both me, and the fist DO NOT ENJOY!!!

But I chose to go down the discus route so help mend me. I'm sure there's an easier way of doing this though isn't there?

i dont see the need in doing 10pwercent every day. in a big tank which im assuming you have it doent to a great deal. why dont you do 50 percent a week or a third every few days or something like that. i have recently sold my 5 footer but i used to use a hose pipe and syphon the water straight from the tank to the drain outside. once you get it started all you need to do is just keep an eye on it and once it has drained enough just take the hose out. the to fiill the tank up i rigged one of those shower fittings on my taps and ran a hose off it into a bucket that i kept on my hood. when the bucket was filled and the tap conditioner had been left to work for a few minutes you can either tip the bucket in the tank or as i used to do, just syphon the water from bucketinto the tank. that way there is no mess no heavy lifting and u can sit and wtch tele the whole time. although u end up with alot of hoses lol

Depends, if you are using tapwater... If you are... Then you are finding out just why we recommend using RO water!!

If you are using RO then I don't get why you want to do it every day, far more stressful for the fish!! Better to do much bigger changes, when I had discus, I was changing 30-40% once or twice a week depending on if it needed it!

Take a look at automation...this would employ extra equipment but would maybe suit your lifestyle better.
There are plenty of gadgetry out there to help you achieve this.
Agreed on two points above
a) There is no real need to water-change daily
b) If your solely into Discus then you need to be researching Reverse Osmosis water.

Thanks very much for responding.

So would I ne better off just doing say 1 x 40% change a week then rather than every day 10% ??

It's a 220ltr, which I think is roughly 57/58gallon tank.

Hose out the back door to drain the tank > dechlor the tank > connect hose to mixer tap in kitchen > fill tank up.
I do 40-60% weekly. Buckets are prob faster to do the water change but obviously the lazy way is going to win

This is the scariest water change I think i'v ever saw!!!

I do a 50% weekly water change on my 60g. I insert the end of my gravel siphon into a standard 5/8" garden hose (clamped to my cabinet door) that runs out the door to the lawn or flower bed. After I do the hover siphon over the substrate, I slip on a filter sock so no fish become part of the process and set the high of the siphon tube so I can let siphon unattended while I clean hoods, filter(s) etc.
For the refill, I have a $6 garden hose adapter for the sink. Long ago I spent the time to adjust the hot/cold taps for just the right temperature and used a permanent pen to mark/index the faucet positions. I use Prime and add a capful to a cup of water and pour in as I begin the refill. Inexpensive, works great and sure beats a bucket brigade.

You know I like that. I don't have that large of a water supply line, so mine are quite a bit slower. The wait for the water heater to recover kills me.

Only problem I can see with this system is there seems to be no tap water conditioner being added anywhere..I also have no idea how he got that alarm and sensor!

Ha thats pretty cool! wish I was inventive enough to do something like that!!!

I'll just stick to what i know.
