Water Changes

'Colder' water changes are sometimes advised to induce spawning behaviour in certain Genus of fish.

One of my male cherry barbs is currently fluttering himself up the side of one of the females. They're going round in circles in the cabomba. Would this be the spawning behaviour you spoke of? If so ... oh dear again.

That does sound like spawning behaviour! But the eggs are unlikely to survive, so you're not going to get overrun with fry :good:

Shame really as Cherry Barbs are some of the most underatted fish available imo. Especially the males when showing off to each other.

i fil my tank up with buckets but i noticed my hot water tap has a different ph to my cold water tap so i use the kettle to boil the cold water from the tap and fill it in i then use one of those external strip thermometer things i have few spare shut it in and to check its around the same temp and put the water in :) usually when its says 26 on the strip it is actually 22 when i get it into the tank :)

Why, out of interest (other than because I have no experience!)? I presume she'd need to be transfered to a (nonexistent) breeding tank ...? Oh, and they're still at it. She's had two of the males on her. One keeps having to chase the other away - funny to watch although it's a little disconcerting.

The parents (and any other fish in the tank) normally eat the eggs before they have a chance to hatch; or the fry if any make it to the hatching stage.

If you did want to breed them, you'd need to move them to another tank, filled with fine leaved plants or spawning mops made of wool and remove the adults once they'd finishe spawning. You would need both a male and a female, as cherry barbs are egg layers, where the male fertilizes the egss after the female has laid them :)

We have eggs on the cabomba. I can't quite believe that adding cold water did this. I thought that fish were meant to be prepared for breeding for about a month. We only bought the fish a few days ago.
