Hi there, Just got into tropical fish. Wanted to do it for a long time...

I was wondering on the best method how to add the water after removing the 25% weekly. At first I would just pour the chlorinated water straight into the tank and then add the required declorination drops...

After reading a lot on the net I am starting to thing this may be a bad way to do it? Should I premix the top-up water first with the drops? Or maybe take some water from the tap a day or so before then add the drops later then add it to the tank?.....

Just want to make sure...

I use a small bowl I bought from dollars store and take water from the bucket I got which is added conditioner with the correct temperature and pure it slowly to the tank. Takes a while tho for bigger tank but sure r less stress for fish.

I think it depends on tank size. For my 29gal I do as stated above, but that is impractical for my 150gal. For that I add the dechlorinator to the tank and slowly add slightly cold water. This method has worked well for me and I have never seen a temp drop of more than a bout a 1/2 degree? (wasn't even sure if it really changed). I do have 2-300W heaters that do click on while adding the water.

My tank is only a small 40L . So the premixing looks like the go.

Having said that, only 2 weeks into the hobby I already found some molly fry this morning. Hope they are still there when I finish work.... I could be buying a bigger tank in the near future....fun..

Add a few hiding places for the fry, like floating plants. That way they will have a reasonable chance of escaping till you return from work.
