The way i do it is put my thumb over the hose end, and fill the vaccum part with tank water. Then I lift up my thumb so the water pours down into the tube (make sure the hose is held below the tank in the bucket) then replace your thumb back over before the tube completely drains. (thus, filling the tube with water) Then, keeping your thumb in place, lower the vaccum back into the tank and let all the air out. Remove the thumb, and presto. It has started. This is so quick ad simple it takes SECONDS to do.

I'm looking after someone elses goldfish at the moment, and thought they could do with a clean, but cant lift the tank because my shoulders so poorly. I'm getting new bettas soon, and possibly a pair of dwarf puffers :D Physiotherapy is draining my money at the moment, but soon i'll get it through the NHS so thats all good.

I read up on fishless cycles when i first joined the forums - so much useful information on the forums.

I'm so glad i dont have to get fishy water in my mouth too :D yick!
