My water has always been clean, but still needs to be changed...do I remove 20% or something and put new water in; if so may i just put in tapwater, or should i treat it first and filter the new water. I have a pretty high power filter, an alternate air source, 2 mollies one gourami and 4 ghost shrimp, and one hillstream loach.

That have to depend on ur tap water status. But as like all tap water you have to add condition first to the tap water before use. As there might be metal or other stuff inside that might cause harm to ur fish. Good luck and also a weekly 25% water change is the best for any fish. Some even require more.

You don't have to filter the new water...conditioner is all you really need. What are the params from the tank, and straight out of the tap?

And maybe I'm mistaken, but aren't Hillstream Loaches coldwater fish? I know they like a strong current, too....

well they are really able to tolerate the 73-77 degree conditions

Most of the tropical fish can take that temperature ofcourse not a sudden change of temperature from 80-70 or the other way arround do it slowly 1-2 f per day.

hey man, tap water should be fine with some conditioner, its never bothered my tank and i keep it pretty clean, I actually add tapwater everyday or so to keep the water levels right so it should be fine.

Question- I have perfectly treated about a gallon of tapwater with aqua safe...may I remove some of my tank water and replace it with my new water or...

If the new water has been treated, and it's about the same temperature, sure, go ahead. :)
