Having just instaled a sump filter under my 6 foot tank, I was wondering if anyone has a easy way of changing the water when doing water changes.
What I am doing at the moment is.
1. I switch off the pump in the sump and let the water flow out of the main tank into the sump until below the syphon, at the same time I drain about 25 to 30 gallons out.
2. I syphon water from the first section of the sump to clean all the dirt out, about 3 gallons.
The problem I have is that if I switch the pump back on it empties the sump before the water reaches the top of the syphon box and activates the syphon.
So I have to switch the pump off again fill up the sump with filtered water from a header tank located in the attic and go through the whole process a few times before I get the tank filled up.
This also cools down the water quite a lot as the water from the attic is cold.
Any ideas would be much appreciated
