Save yourself some of your hard earned money...Table salt is fine.....

Table Salt contains iodine which will kill your fish. you can buy pure sea salt or kosher salt though.

It's probably not worth getting into the whole salt debate as people often have strong & varied opinions. My earlier comment on salt was just through my experience & all manner of reading of background information on salt it's effects. I didn't just throw the comment out.

However the concentrations of iodine is common home table salt is insufficient to cause harm to our FW fish. The following article outlines this point:

As stated in the article this was just the authors personal feelings towards the salt debate. That said, having read a number of his papers / articles / posts / debates & seen the regard to which he is held at a number of other forums I personally believe that RTR is some-one whose advice / experince can be relied on.

Like I said people have strong opinions on salt & wether or not the quantities of iodine contained has any effect. I suppose it's where your beliefs on the salt bedate fall, IME I have been adding table salt to a small number of set ups for approx a year now with no detrimental affects and therefore I have no hesitation in recommending table salt.

Maybe I should have quantified my earlier comment with "IMO / IME save your etc etc."

Anyway I hope this helps clarifies my point of view on the great salt debate & proves that no ill intent was meant by my previous post.....

a point of little or no interest a chemical is added to salt for pregnant ladies to be shure it is in all parts of the diet i cant remeber what it is but it is trace amounts that mean a common child deformaty was allmost irradicated tho i cant think for the life of me what the chemical was called or what the deformaty was called. it will come to me
