Water Change

Honestly, all you need to use is put your hand in your tank and then under the tap. You want it to feel very slightly cool but not cold - you'll be able to tell :) Besides you can adjust it as you go. As long at you aren't pumping very warm water into the tank you won't do any harm. Even if it's too cold there's no reason to worry. I've not managed to overheat mine yet - if you see that the temperature is creeping up just change to all cold and a have a drop in temp.

I use a hose for water changes and, as I don't have a mixer tap or a shower, I use straight, cold water.

I add enough dechlor for the whole tank's volume, before I start refilling, and just trickle the new water in fairly slowly. It does take longer doing water changes that way, but I'm not having to carry many buckets (just the ones I've used to substrate clean), so I'm happy with that!

Thats cool.

Ok, gonna try my hand at making one of these, looks fairly straightforward really, just a case of cutting hoses to length and putting on 6 or 7 connectors probably from Hozelock from B&Q or a garden centre.

But the bended hose holder on AlmOstAwsome's 2nd pic, will scout around for something like that.

Looking forward to doing that soon.

Yup, it's a life saver!

I can't imagine hauling buckets for a large w/c. I've never actually used buckets when w/c a larger sized tank. The carnage I'd have done by now with water going everywhere lol. I don't know the number of times I've let the bucket overflow when emptying my 10G

(that's what I get for cleaning two tanks at once I guess). I change out about 180L when doing my weekly w/c on my display tank - that's a lot of buckets!

180 litres in weekly water changes! Whew, yup that sure is a LOT of buckets. Am getting tired just THINKING about it! So hence thats why you made a python hose.

Ive only a 90 litre tank at the moment but already got a 46l Edge getting set up for a planted shrimp tank and plan on getting a bigger tank at some point in near future, therefore thats why am thinking about this sort of thing to help out with weekly water changes.

Great tips and good DIY projects to keep me busy!

I picked up the bendy thing from a washer repair shop near me, there found on the back of washing machines, free of charge as well

Ah, of course! Should have thought of that.

Excellent tip!
