Hi All

Need some advice on water changes,

Do you need to use warm water when doing the change or will cold be ok.

And we live in a really strange water area, you can actually smell chlorine in it, Do i need to filter it all through a Britta filter or simular. Or can i just use tap water conditioner.

Thanks in advanced
Andy

I always match the temp of new water to that of the tank, and add a dechlorinator.

Hi Andy

You need to get the new water roundabout the same temperature of the aquarium water, not sure about whether or not you need to filter it with a brittax, just the conditioner should be fine you might be able to double dose it, but not sure of the implications of that, someone else on here might know about that.

Don't forget to unplug the filter, heater and lights when your doing the water change, wouldn't like to hear you've been electricuted.

Damm! never thought about that! I've always left it plugged in! opps! Won't anymore!

When it comes to water changes I don't bother getting it up to temp. It usually only lowers the tank temp by half a degree and your heater should have it back to normal it 5-10 minutes.
I fill up a bottle with water add water condinoner and shake it and then put it in the tank - seems to work OK.
