Water Change Temperature

Hi All

I was just wondering how closely people match the temperature of the new water during a water change?

I do try to get mine within half a degree but I have been known to put a bucket of water in that's 2 degrees out. Is that bad?

I used to temp match with every wc but it isn't necessary. My aquarium temp is between 24-25C but during a wc (I change 40-50% weekly) I add colder water to the tank dropping the temp to about 19C according to my lcd thermometer. Obviously the heater brings the temp back up within a few hours but the fish seem to love the colder water. Obviously I'm not advocating keeping tropical fish in cold temps but a drop in temp weekly is yet to have a detrimental affect on the community.

In fact, there are some that argue that keeping the your stock in the same temp weakens their immune system over time. Because in the wild the temp does fluctuate...

I too do 50 or 60% changes with cold water. As long as you trickle the new water in slowly (I might take an hour/hour and a half to refill a 240l tank) so you don't shock the fish it's not a problem, IME.

I use a python aqueon thing. And it refills the water goes back in within 6-7 mins. Never had a problem the fish do what they normally do and chase/try to eat the bubbles.

With fish being cold blooded does this not risk them going into shock? What fish do you have in your tank?

I'd have said the better question is where are they.

My tap water is 6degrees at the minute

Nope

Forward to the 2:20 mark.

A drop of 6-7C is pretty much the temp change on a south american rain day.
