I presume when you have to change some of the water in a tank that most people use buckets.

I've thought of an idea to use something with a larger volume.

I've just 'Aquired' ;) a drinking fountain water bottle. Rigid plastic, for drinking water use.
It holds 18.5L, about 4 gallons. It has a nice wide neck. Wide enough to fill and carry upstairs, just. (4 Gallons - 40Lb?)

My plan is to then stick a water heater into the neck and down about halfway. Add a thermometer to check temp.
That way i can heat up, treat the chloramine etc, then add to tank 4 gallons at a time.

Has any one else done this?

My only worry is if the plastic will take a temp of about 27C. :/

I'll report on my findings if used.

Forgot to add that it's also got a large carrying handle built in to the molding of the bottle.

When I do attempt this I'll take a few photo's too.

depending what size tank you have 4 gallon wouldn`t really affect the temp of our tanks, and when you have to do a 30 gallon change the hose pipe works best

I used to use one of these: Warhorse Water Carrier. I used to fill it up after each change and leave it standing until the next change.

Now... I just fill a watering can from the tap (with a little hot water mixed in), treat it, and add it straight to the tank. The watering can rose means I can add it quickly without screwing up my plants etc.

i use a small piece of hose and a five gallon paint bucket. the big grey ones at lows, or the orange ones at home depot, if your in the usa.

Easiest way I have found is to pump the water out with an eheim pump and pipe cold tap water straight back in through a garden hose. Temp never drops by more than 2 degrees and it means I can change 100 gallons in about 30 minutes. So long as you don't change more than 20% at a time then using hot or warm water just isn't necessary.
