Water Change Complications

I'm doing a 50 percent water change on one of my 55 gallon tanks, but I just realized the faucet adapter for my water hose is broken. Do you guys think my fish will be okay in half their usual water with the filters off and the bubbler going while I go to replace it? I don't have enough de-chlor either (I hate it when my sister uses up almost all the supplies without informing me so that I can avoid this sort of situation). Or should I just risk the bucket method with my flimsy three gallon buckets?

How long is it going to take you to replace it?

I decided not to risk the possibly hour long trip, so I used the buckets, resulting in three nasty falls, two badly bruised knee, and one aching hand. I scrounged up some dechlor from other bottles (mostly free samples from aquarium kits). Now that I'm turning colors, I am about to head off to the store, but at least my damn fish are going to be okay... Had I known that today would be a lesson in "Why you should wear shoes whilst changing water" I would have just gone to the LFS and home repair store.

I have a special pair of flip fops I wear when changing my water, I learned the hard way too! lol Glad you got it taken care of and I hope you feel better!

I should probably invest in something like that... I probably wouldn't have fallen, but my gravel vac out take tube slipped out of a garden hose which I use to dump the water out into the yard. Basically, I made a big mess.

I think your sister should have her own separate supplies, it was a clogged sand cleaner last time.

I agree! She replaced the vac, though, so at least there's that. I don't mind sharing the de-Chloe because we get a really big container of it, but I would like to be alerted when it empties. She doesn't have too much common sense. She's all a-twitter about a new boyfriend and all that. I swear, no one believes when I say she's the eldest.

And you won't believe what I knocked out of the garden hose! We cut off both ends to an old hose so we could fit the gravel vac tube inside it so we wouldn't have to use buckets, but when I was getting it ready the other day, I felt something in it. I ran water through it and finally knocked about a pound of sand from someone's tank.

Noo. But I was really worried that I sucked up a Cory. I saw something white go down the tube and I started panicking so out I went. I don't suck one up though.
