We have some ghost shrimp in our 28gal tank and yesterday, I saw a big one that I thought was dead at the bottom of the tank. I didn't fish it out b/c I was busy all day, but throughout the day, I'd come back, and take a look at it out of morbid curiosity... just to see if the fish were nibbling at it or whatever.
But during these times, I noticed that it was moving. Thought that the shrimp was dieing, BUT, it looked... "weird". It's leg area was this big clump of legs and body maybe, and I watched it move (on its side) towards food that I had just given the tank.
Now the shrimp isn't there any longer, and I'm wondering if it was just molting or not? I don't see a dead body or an empty shell anywhere.... that's not saying much though since it's hard to see clearly in to the tank (algae on glass and plants in the way).
Or maybe it was just dieing and it moving towards food was nothing at all.

So yeah, opinions on what could've been going on would be awesome :D

when glass shrimp die they turn a pinky red colour. It sounds like the shrimp was moulting and the shell has been eaten by one of the tank inhabitants.

They turn pink? Okedoke.. glad I didn't fish it out then! But... now that I know that.... I've probably killed a few by accident b/c I thought they were dead  oops....

Healthy molting only takes a few seconds, I havn't seen a ghost molt but amano and dwarf shrimp tend to almost jump out. I think the colour change to pinkish happens when the shrimp actually dies.
Cheers
