Hi all. This is probably pointless as I'm sure you've all taken the nessecary steps to stop your tank temps climbing with the sudden improvement in weather so consider this a friendly reminder :

KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR TEMPERATURE READINGS!!!!!!!!

Mine crept up this morning to over 80 degrees on both my marine and tropical tanks.

I've just spent the last few hours modifying my hoods by adding spacers on the hinges and at the front to lift them up by 4" to allow for ventilation.
Within an hour my temps dropped and stabilised at 79 degrees on my marine and 75 on my trop.

Just thought I'd warn you you all!!!!!!

Cheers mines alright currently but could be modding mine soon too lol

I prefer snow :hyper:

To be honest I like the look of my tanks now even more so think I'm gonna leave it for good.
My house is always warm anyway even in the winter so I should be ok.

Plus I've got backup!.................... A spare metal halide!

I try, can only get it down to 79-80 F. I think i prefer the winter

Mine too Seffie!

My clowns actually left the elegance to cool down at the top!

Thanks to me raising the hood my temp has dropped down to 74 degrees. Now it's too low!

Ah temperature regulation with season shifts...fine in the middle of winter, fine in the middle of summer, and a pain in the behind inbetween! I have this complicated desk fan and mesh lids thing going on with my 55gal right now to keep the temp where I want it. Were it not for the fact that I hate hot weather, I would that the summer heat would just get it on with already so that I can put on both mesh tops and the fan and be done with it without worrying about it dipping too cold.

As my place is well insulated and retains the heat in I'm hoping the tank temp will remain reasonably stable even throughout the winter months and also the transition between summer and winter............er, autumn! Lol

Looks like I managed to jinx myself with that last post - was over 95F/35C outside today, totally out of nowhere! At least now my silly mesh tops and fan will be in place for some time.

That has to be the one time when a hot lighting system is actually a pretty nice to have. Heats during the day, and if its' sealed up even a nano can hold its temp well overnight.

I agree D but unfortunately I'm running T5HO as my lighting so there isn't much heat distribution from it. Although it seems my heater has managed to stabilise the temp in the tank. It does fluctuate by a degree or 2 of an evening but it's not too bad.

I now have evaporation issues as a result of raising the hood. I'm now having to top up every 2 days but I have an audible alarm to alert me when the water surface has dropped.................my powerhead gurgling! And loads of micro bubbles!
