Blue Bettas are always very pretty

Try C72, Corydoras Loretoensis. Nice sky-blue flanks, a small shoal would go with your loaches really well. They're kind of hard to find, though.....

Wow - a deluge of replies! Thanks for all your suggestions.
I guess I've got a lot of research to do.
I'll have to find some pictures first to see what grabs me.

Thanks also for the eye-popping blue betta.
I can see why you adore them but they're just not for me - too frilly, I think.

Keep 'em coming anyone else who has some blue fish.
And I mean REALLY blue - not kinda tinged with blue when you catch it in the right light.

Wolf - Thanks, very nice but I am over run with Danios at the moment and I love the zebras best of all.

Very pretty I think. Looks a lot like mine except mine is more of a turquoise and still a juvie.

Thanks for the picture & links you two, but the discus is a bit frilly for me and the blue loach isn't blue enough (and also on the website it says it hides during the day and comes out at night and can be agressive).

the corythingy whatsisface doesn't look at all blue to me

So now I know I'm going for

BRIGHT BLUE and ACTIVE and NOT FRILLY!

Please keep suggesting - we'll find the perfect fish in the end!

Hmmm. That's a tough one. In the fish world that qualifies as and oxymoron. You're not going to find many spectacularly coloured, bright blue fish that lack long fins and are fast-moving. How can you not like frilly fish? They are gorgeous. And discus are not frilly BTW. It's fins aren't long at all...

Discus - Frilly

I would have to go with:

Blue Turk Discus
Blue Danios
Green Tetras (In a big shoal - and I know it says green but they're blue)

What is the pH of your water?

If your pH is greater than 7.4, you could try P Acei...

Pictures are posted on this thread:

They are mbuna and it grows to 5 inches but they do get along with clown loaches. It may or may not be your cup of cake... ;)

I thought about adding clown loaches into my mbuna tank...

Yeah, David it IS a LOVELY colour but it's frilly all round - like a duvet cover!!!
Nothing else suggested can touch it for blue-ness (apart from the even frillier betta).

Sorry Cichlid lovers - I think they're ugly.
Pseudotropheus Acei - Hmmmm, not quite what I'm looking for either

There HAS to be something out there.

what's wrong with the blue rainbowfish? or blue gourami?

i saw some lvoely females guppies the other day, they were white with blue tails. i know this doesn't really qualify as "bright blue" but i dunno if you're gonna get a fish with exactly those qualities. i recommend the females rather than themales as they are less frilly.

and David, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that ;) saying "how can you not like frilly fish?" is like saying "how can you not like broccoli", some people take to it, others don't. :) personalyl i cant stand long finned fish.

Guppies - not very exciting and also have bred like wildfire here (which I suppose is OK once the females have had the first batch which were prepared earlier!)

Platy - is that "guppy" by another name? It's very similar. (Pardon my ignorance)

Rainbow fish not very blue really.
Gourami ditto

Looking for blue like the betta or discus
But not round or frilly.
Shaped like a danio maybe.
I like long fins but streamlined, not frilly.

I really appreciate all the suggestions and I hope you don't think I'm being ungrateful (or insulting to the fish you love).

Am I too picky???
