Hi all,

Looking for as cheap sas possible water heater to pre warm my water before changes.

Anything will do as long as it works (obviously) as I only need it to get the temp up slightly :)

Salt will disolve without heating. Any good refractometer should adjust for temperature issues. I waterchange 20% on the marine tank, and 50% on the Discus regularly without heating, so the question remains on why you want to re-heat unless you are using a cheap refractometer or a hydrometer...

Good to have a spare heater about though in case of issues... :good:

All the best

As per Rabbut, water temperature fluctuations a) aren't as much as you think they might be and b) doesn't do tropical fish any harm, provided you don't do bigger than 40-50% (depending on who you listen to.

I used to preheat the water (using a kettle full of water) and was then corrected. Using a heater will take hours to match you existing tank water and really isn't necessary.

As for salt I'm not going to lie - I know nothing about marine tanks, but would trust Rabbut.

ah well i've bought it anyway and as rabbut says - good backup!

The other thing is my water is stored outside and at the moment it's pretty cold...

Whilst the salt will disolve it'll go quicker in the warmer water :)

Aye, can't hurt to have too many heaters...in fact I've got about 3 times as many heaters as tanks. Funny the things you pickup 'just in case' over time.
