Well, after lots of thought and looking at my wall and thinking some more I have decided to build the wall into a cabinet with a 125 Gallon centered into it using Dark Cherry colored wood/stain.

What I want to know is if it would be safe to run PVC across the back area for plumbing for the filters, etc... I plan on using Ehiem Filters when I build and set this up.

Any other advice woudl be nice. :)

The PVC was to be the piping for the Eheim filters, but that is questionable at the moment because I'm planning on building a back entrance from the other room into the wall.

Right now I'm in the design phase so I can find out how many 2x4's of each size I'm going to need in order to build this. I work concrete and we work at mostly new construction so there is tons of lumber around. I need to get my measurements and everything on paper so I can start collecting the 2x4's to build all the framing.

The Oak Plywood I'm planning for the outside finishing is going to cost money though and not happen until after the new year. Same with the glass. I'm also pricing the cost of glass to do a DIY all glass aquarium and thinking about this instead of a 6' 125 Gallon.

Thanx for the comments...

the reason I asked what the PVC is for is because canister filters arent really designed for a high head which you might be creating by plumbing it with pvc

I've already discussed the PVC with some people who are using it and how they are doing it.

Some people brought up though on another forum that I will really want back access and back access will pretty much eliminate the need for PVC.

For this reason I probably won't use it.

hey guys, usually dont post much on this section, i'm a newbie and the only thing i've custom built was a custom lid with a flouresant light, wired with a switch and pvc sheet with hindges for the lid. I work at a plastic fabrication shop and we sell and fabricat all high and low density plastics and fittings. I hear alot of people say they are using PVC for their piping with fish tanks, and I dont want to seem like know it all, but I do have some expertise in this field, that PVC is used for 150psi....which is ALOT more then what a filter will run at. so if you go to your rona or home depot, ask for ABS pipping, it works just as good and it will cost you 1/3 the price! just a thought to save money guys!

ABS is not for potable water...

if its not safe for humans to drink from then I wouldnt use it on fishtanks...

also thought that I would add that PVC is rated at 150psi at 73degrees, the higher the temp gets the lower the pressure rating...

if anyone is a serious fish fanatic, I would suggest ultra pura LXT pvc piping, which is for pure water because over time your pvc or abs will breakdown but LXT will stay pure forever, 1/2 pipe runs around 5 dollars a foot, lol, fittings (elbows and tees) about 25 each!
