if it's a case of there being a 0.5mm gap (can't be any bigger if all you can fit in there is a sheet of paper) then i wouldn't worry. as you have your aquarium on a foam type base, as soon as you start filling it the ends will gradually sink down with the weight. pretty soon the actual base of the aquarium will be touching the foam and will start to take its share of the weight.
if you had it on a hard surface with no foam the situation might be different though, and as has already been said maybe the base is supposed to float?
