Hi everyone,
I have 5 von rio tetras in my tank. Four I've had for about a year. The last one, which I purchased back in early winter, was always larger than the rest. Today I noticed that this fish appears to have swallowed a balloon! Is she full of eggs? All of the other tetras are skinny as always. I have such hard, alkaline water that I never expected anything to breed in my tank. She's doing a little bit of head-standing, but mostly swims normally. I just fed some blood worms as a treat a few hours ago. None of the other fish seem particularly interested in her condition.
So...what's the verdict...full of eggs? Or, something else?
I wasn't able to get a photo of her, but in searching on line I did find one that depicts her round belly pretty well:
