I just bought 8 Von Rio (Flame) Tetras for my new (recently cycled) 30 gallon tank. The fish all seem vigourous and active and all have a good appetite. However, some of them seem to be quite aggressive towards their tankmates.

When I first introduced them they were all schooling, but as they've settled in, most of them seem to go their own way, staying in groups of two, three or four. Sometimes, one will just hide by itself (not necessarily the same one). A couple of the fish seem to be quite a bit more aggresive towards the others, chasing fish all over the tank. They don't seem to be doing any damage but I didn't think these fish were so aggressive. Is it a male chasing away another male, female versus female or just some dominant fish showing the rest who's boss? Is this normal behavior or is something irritating them?

Anybody?

Well, they all still look quite healthy so I guess everything's alright.

They are fine. Schooling fish not schooling is a sign of their feeling safe and at ease in the new home you have so thoughtfully and carefully planned for them.
