I went in search of vocalizing fish for my TFF Christmas song under construction. Didn‘t exactly see what I wanted, but came across a few interesting sites.

My Pearl Gourami, yes I know I shouldn't just have one, likes to go to the top of the tank then go to the bottom of the tank and blow noisy bubbles. When he releases the bubbles it is with some force and I can hear it from quite a distance, often startling me when I am at work. He does it two or three times once or twice a day but when is the question.

You need to stop feeding baked beans to your Gourami :fartonyou: (just kidding  )

Most of my thorny catfish make various grunts, my pygmy chain loach make clicking noises, and my old croaking gourami made plenty of noise during the right season.

The pearl lives in a 60 gallon with a number of juvenile angels, and one adult angel. He kind of acts like he is an angel and some of the younger angels follow him around the tank.

Speaking of sounds my angels make smacking sounds at the top of the aquarium every time I walk by. If you have a number it can make quite the noise too.

Right now I've got two clown loaches - pretty small, but with lots of character as they usually are - and all throughout the day I hear these little "crackle" "pops" and "snaps" from them, particularly when they're being fed. Lovely noise, but before I knew what it was I thought I was going stir crazy lol. It's like having a bowl of rice krispies in your tank!

They call Tom, my 6” catfish, Synodontis E, the FeatherFin Squeaker because of their ability to make sounds with their large dorsal fin. Never heard a peep out of Tom. He’s the only one of his species in the tank & must be waiting for the right girl to come along.

LOL i want to hear them sounds!
update: i tamed my pearl gouramis
now they arent afraid of me, they know im just the food kid
they swim around everywhere in 75g in a school
their favorite spot is still the dark spot where nobody can see them

My dwarf chain loaches used to click at each other. For the longest time I thought something was wrong with my heater. I had a school of zebra loaches in my 150g tank (I think @Boundava has them now? or maybe I gave them to someone locally?) that sounded like a popcorn popper at feeding time. I kind of miss them. None of my South American or Sumatran species talk to each other; at least, not in any language I can hear.
