@emeraldking starting this thought with his Croaking Gourami post. A unique aquarium idea would be to have some sort of vocal, or otherwise noisy fish based setup. A tank that can sing to you. Does anyone know of other fresh water aquarium fish that make noise? Other freshwater creatures, again suitable for an aquarium, that make noise. I know there are quite a few creatures that make noise in salt water but scuba diving in fresh water I don't think I can remember any freshwater fish that make noise.

I didn't read the entire thing but this may help.

An estimated 20 percent of fish species actively make noises to communicate,” says Simon Linke, a scientist at Griffith University’s Australian Rivers Institute and lead author on the research.

Yes! My sparkling gourami croaks at the other gourami. Sometimes I think is that a crow or him, he's so loud!! I love that fish.. he's like a little spirit the way he glides around and he never bothers anyone else!

Clearly there are more examples than I heard of. Gouramis and some catfish seem to be the most common but the Australian Grunters should be looked at too. I wonder what would happen if I put a hydrophone in the tank, though they are not a typical consumer level item.
