Hey guys,

Doubt there's much anyone can say, but I'm curious. I seem to have a virgin gourami. He has a nice lady gourami in the tank with him, but he knows not what to do. She's always poking him and doing the bendy swimming thing against him and I can see she's releasing eggs. But he's just not sure what to do. I think he's a geek. I tried explaining to him that the whole dinner and a movie thing doesn't work, and women really go for the bad boy who mistreats them. He didn't seem to understand.

So I put some floating hornwort in the tank, and he's hanging around under it. Perhaps he's thinking of starting a gang under the fish equivalent of an overpass. Anyway he makes some half-assed effort at blowing a bubblenest (which yes, does stay together, but it's such a sorry excuse for a nest), then gives up. He does a lot of chasing her away from his little hornwort crib, flares a bit and makes out like he's a man. But I can see it in his eyes, he's scared. I showed him an educational fish sex movie, but he just got embarassed and swum away.

The poor guy is gonna die a virgin if he doesn't figure it out. Anyone else had a gourami that really doesn't have a clue what to do, but clearly wants to get his freak on?

Cheers.

wow, ok u acting more a geek then he is lol. What kind of gouramis are they? What size tank? Water parameters perfect? Maybe he isnt quite mature yet. Does he have a lot of color?

What species are they and what size(s)? This kind of thing is common actualy. Inexperienced or imature fish almost always start off uncertain of what they need to do to spawn. Don't worry about it, he'll get over it in time.
