I have a custom built 250ltr tank which has 2 towers either side and 2 chambers in the middle in a V fashion with the front chamber slanting down and the back chamber slanting up. Under the chambers is a dry section (purposely built as dry section for looks) which is 3.2" deep, 13.8"wide and 32.3" long with all sides totallty sealed.

I have suddenly decided to put something in the dry section. I can comfortably put about 2.8" of water in there and was thinking along the lines of an axolotl but even with a very thin layer of large gravel, there'd only be about 2.4-" of water space. Filtration will be a tiny powerhead on it's side. Think that would be enough or would I be pushing the envelope a bit too much for even one axolotl? If too shallow, any other suggestions or I'll just put in land hermit crabs...

I think axolotls would be to big and they are purely aquatic so would need to be in water at all time. Maybe something thats semi aquatic like fire bellied newts would work best if you have an area for them to get out the water.

Yeah thought it may be a wee bit too shallow, just wanted to double check. Thanks :)

Just googled the fire bellied newts and I quite like that idea. With it being so shallow be easy as adding a small piece of driftwood or rock in the middle of it for it to get some land time. But may have to extend the walls up a wee bit or are they not proned to climb out of tanks?

I dont think there great climbers but i think they could mange to escape from a 3.2" tall tank so i think building up the sides a little would be best.

Ok will do. Thanks heaps for that. Now to find a shop in Australia that sells them

Just took one from my mobile for you. Doesn't do it justice but you get the idea. Looks a little bare at the moment as just set it all back up again with a few tetras to get the water cycle happening again.

good looking tank how
many gallon is that
and how do you get in to clean it
but i do like the shape

Cleaning is easy with magnetic scrubbers & shrimp are on order to help clean other parts. Gravel cleaning is a bit tricky but I get there. It's a bit above 66 gallons

I'm actually thinking of another design at the moment based on a submarine. Steel framing with glass portals. Something different cause I hate following the normal ideas

good for you i like to
see odd tanks as i call

tank and there's a bond movie
were the bed is a fish tank
often fancied a coffee table
fish tank

Yeah I'd love a coffee table tank. Do you remember which movie had the tank bed? Mind you, be very nerve wrecking doing the horizontal dance on it.

If anyone has a coffee table tank, could you please attach a photo of it?
