Ok

well until now I have thought my fishtank is fine, but after watching a few (alot lol) of videos on youtube I have begun to think that it is unusually loud. It sounds alot like a tap running into a bathtub, being in my bedroom I have already gotten used to it, but I am just wondering if it is normal. The videos on youtube all seem to have a slight hum of the filter and nothing else, im just wondering if my tank is not full or if something is wrong -_-

There is about 3 cms of empty space between the glass panel and the plastic hood other wise the top of the filter would be submerged ( i didnt think it should as it had screws that could potentially rust)

There is a link to my tanks website with specs and everything else "http://www.aa-aquarium.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=186"

the tanks manual was very vauge

any advice would be appreciated

The link's not working for me, I'm afraid. Is the filter built into the lid, or is it a separate internal filter?. If it's the latter, it should be fully submersed with at least an inch between the top of the filter and the surface of the water.

as you can see on the websites video, it has water filled to the very top of the tank, to where the plastic hood begins.

however i find the manual quite confusing, the manual that I clicked on, redirected me to a different manual, i finally found the correct one, http://www.aa-aquarium.com/catalog/images/AA800RGW_ENG.pdf

but find it quite confusing when it describes the water level above the impeller, the picture in figure 2 is completly different then the actually filter underneath it in figure 4. I have contacted their technical support over a week ago and still have no response

hopefully this picture makes sense i anotated it in ms paint haha, at the moment I have the water at a level just under the black power adapter thing, I am wondering if I should fill it to the brim sprayed in red? as that would remove the 3 cms of empty space I currently have, the video on their website shows it full to the top of the glass/hood but it just doesnt seem safe.

the troubleshooting section talks about the water being full to promote good filtration.

pfft silent filter? i think not

to vinylman,

it is quite weird, it is not built into the hood, it actually sits atop of it and has a cover the makes it look neat, Therefore it cannot be submerged. I can completely remove it though, it is a 3 stage filter, if that means anything to you

Have you tried messing with the way the filter contacts the surface its on like the tank glass or floor, maybe move it until the noise subsides or add something soft inbetween. After having turtle and fish tanks in my room for about 7 years I find every now and then I have to have a little mess with the filter and pumps and the noise disappears. It might ust be a little of balance.

I wish that was the problem, when I first started the tank it made a loud rattling sound which was easily fixed by moving the actual filter around.

The noise is actually the sound of the water flowing through the filter (bio balls, sponge etc)

I think I am just being paranoid haha

but I would still like to know if I can submerge the top of the adapter in that picture

thanks for the response
