I have 2 female mollies, 1 black and one silver lyretail. Yesterday I removed some danios and took them back to the lfs because they were aggressive toward the mollies. Also realized from reading the forums that my tank was too small for them. THe mollies got along just fine for the 2 weeks that the danios were in the tank.

But now, the black mollie seems to have taken over the danio's role!! :( She's been following the silver mollie and keeps biting at her. The poor silver one can do nothing to make her happy, it doesn't matter where in the tank she goes, the black one keeps coming back for more. What a bully!!

I think the black one is pregnant. Could this be the reason she is so territorial? My tank is only a ten gallon. There are no other fish in there except 2 fry. I'm thinking 1-2 more fish but no more than that because I like fry. Would more fish reduce the aggression? If so what types? I don't want scaleless fish. Platies?

I read a post like this somewhere before but can't find it. Any advice would be really helpful.

I like Mickey Mouse Platys
Theyre so cool,my mollies and platys get along fine together mabe more mollies and a male might help spread the aggression about! :p

Silly quetion, but are you shore there both female??

Getting a male may put more aggretion in the tank, as the preshore of breeding grow's. Maybe another 1 or 2 females may help, it will hopefuly spread out the bullying, but then there be no preshore of breeding aggretion.

Adding another speshes, may not be a good idea if you want the fry to life. Most mollies are good with fry.

I don't normaly suggest this, and only use it a last resort, but could you seperate the bully, in a large breeding net, over night. I seperated a bully once and it worked, but this can stress the fish in the net out so much, that she may become ill and die, so as I say last resort.

Thanks for the advice from both of you. They are definitely both female. The black female bully has give birth before, and the white lyretail molly definitely does not have a gonypodium. I found another post where it seems the only solution was to take the fish back to the lfs. :( I hope that I don't have to do this. I've had enough problems in setting up this tank!

So germanshepherdlvr, tell me about your tank.. how big is it, what type of mollies do you have? it sounds cool.

Oh, I just went back and read what is in your tank! :fun: Guess I should read before asking.... duh.

mollies can be evil. i had one that took out a whole tank twice, including a mbuna cichlid.

Mollies do tend to have an attitude problem, never kept them though, don't no what to say for the best sorry.

Wow, that aquarium picture is awesome germanshepherdlover! I want to get decorations. I just have 3 plants - my bf won't allow me to buy much else. He's afraid it will turn into multiple tank syndrome... he's probably right!

This mollie thing is worrying. :( My silver one is so peaceful. WRS - So how long did it take the mollie to destroy all your fish? I do hope I can solve this problem. I've isolated the bully and I think I'm going to get another fish today to see if I can't stop this.

I see a lot of black mollies at the store. I don't know whether that means no one wants them or whether they're really popular. Either way, this black molly of mine is nasty!! Maybe I do need another molly so the white one doesn't have to endure it alone.... :-(

Beautiful tank Germanshepherdlover. Hand on heart we have never had nasty mollies, I love them to bits.

:fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:

well, i didnt know it was the particular one for a while. It took about 1 month for them to mostly all die. The only fish that lived, were
1 goldfish
1 corydoras
1 danio
1 gourami, which is the one that ended the molly

When I first got my dalmation molly she was really nice and sweet to everyone and very curious. She would follow any new fish around and kind of check them out a bit. But ever since she has had her fry she chases everything away (mostly other female fish  ) She nipped at my opaline gourami, chases my baby female betta away, and even chases away my blue ram (even though he is a male). She is pregnant AGAIN so maybe it is just hormones or something?

I guess we'll all see. I just went to the fish shop and got 2 small mollies. One small dalmation lyretail male and one silver lyretail female. I'm hoping the black bully will spread out her issues onto the other fish. And maybe the male will keep her busy!!!

You might just be right about her being pregnant. She was like this the day I brought her home and she gave birth. Hopefully she'll get over her attitude problem. :dunno:
