That happened to one of my tanks once right after I installed a brand new filter. Water changes lightened it up but with a few days it was as green as can be. The only way I got it to go away was to re install the old filter. Im sure there are many other ways but this just happened to have been one of the first things I tried.

What kind of filter do you have? Actually, having a lot of plants should cut dowm on algae. Is your tank in direct sunlight? Try burning your lights a little less.

I have a fluval 3 plus, i did change the filter pad a few weeks ago but only one of them, its not in direct sunlight. If its the filter it should clear up soon?

I changed 50% of the water and put more of that algae clearing stuff And it worked! I havnt seen my tank this clear for so long i cant stop staring at it lol :fun:

I cleared mine up (2 different tanks) with a UV Sterilizer. One took about 48 hours and the other about 5 days. I had the sterilizer set up temporarily running off a power head and removed it after the water cleared. They are both still crystal clear and that has been about 9 weeks on one and about 2 weeks for the other one.

yeah i wish ic puld find a steriliser for an decent amoutn, being able to hire one woud be great

Here is where I got mine (the top one - Turbo Twist 3X). That was the best price I found anywhere. You can run it off a small power head or through a cannister filter.

i just wanna kno whats causing it first, i did the 60% water change yesterday and its coming back :( so i did 20% tonight which did nothing lol is it the apple snails causing it? i have about 50 5p sized ones in the tank, should i remove them?

Wilder posted a link further up the thread which will explain what causes it and how to get rid of it. I've used that method and it works.

right i'm trying to understand whats in the link... I can't stop light coming into the room so will keeping the tank lights off for a few days help? Could this have all happened because of all the sunny weather lately??
