Hi all,

Bit of an urgent question... One of my female platy's has started being very aggressive towards the other 4 females... She chases them around the tank if they get even remotely near her... The single male platy likes following her around, and she doesn't bother him.

Any ideas? I'm really concerned she's going to hurt one of the others...

Thanks

Whenever my fish are being agressive, I do one of two things.
1. Add a small pinch of food to distract the fish
OR
2. Put the fish in an in tank holding cell for a couple of days (ie. a breeded, specimen container)

Sometimes fish just have a couple days a month that they get cranky. My goldfish do it once every couple of weeks. Try these ideas. I hope one works for you. :D

I tried the food thing - only problem is, it distracts them for the time it takes to eat it, and then she starts again. In fact, she was doing this last night, she was fine by today but as soon as I fed them she started again. It's like the feeding triggered it.

I don't have another tank to move her into at the moment. Anyone else able to explain whats happening?

That sounds as if the two platies are matting. At times, fish get very aggressive if they are mating. Look at the Cichlid!!!
