I'm at my wits end with my office mates. Every morning when I come in to work the fish swim to the front of the tank to beg and get fed by me, a pinch of flakes and a pinch of pellets for the corys. I am first in and have no company for another 2 hours.
Other people are constantly asking ooooh can we feed the fish? And when they feed them they just say-
'I don't want them to think you're their mum'
'They look bored'
'I like to watch them go crazy'
'You can't not feed them all day, it's cruel'.

GAAAH! They won't listen to my explanations about pollution and I want to scream when they say things like; well I wouldn't want to not be fed over the weekend/overnight/ at breakfast, lunch and tea...

THEY ARE FISH! They need to be cared for AS FISH for their welfare!! Why can't people UNDERSTAND?!
*bangs head on desk*

most people can't understand the feeding of fish. 1 of my friends offered to feed mine over the w/ends if we go to our caravan & its a case of NNOOOOOOOOOO.
they get a little extra on a fri if we going away but other than that they don't get fed again till sunday night & they all fine

I was quite happy for them to be fed on a Friday evening and not till Monday then.. but nooo someone had to come in to feed them cos that would be 'cruel'. I just worry how much is being given!

Get some small bags and put a days food in each and write on what day its for, i do this for my mum when i go on holiday, she stays at mine to feed to furries so she may as well feed the fish and frogs while shes here.

Or get one of the pill holders you can get for old people they usually have 7 compartments with mon - sun on them.

Hide all other food

now thats a good idea for when we away for longer than a w/end. will get the pill boxes for next years hols so we covered

Maybe you could make up a sign that says 'Fish are feed once daily to prevent them getting sick, and creating excess waste and toxic build up within the tank'. Then *hopefully* people will get scared off by the toxic buildup part. If you are going away, then you should deligate 1 person to do the feeding. Unfortunately, you can't know what happens when you are away, but the pill bottle thing is a great idea. I might just pick that up today so i can give them a good mix while I am away without confusing my mom too much.

How many people are in your office?

What about giving each person a chance to feed the fish for a week. You could set up the correct proportions in the pill container and then lock up the rest of the food in your desk. Then everyone feels they are doing their part & they are still getting fed the correct amount everyday. While your at it, you could have them clean the tank that week too, they would probably change their minds about feding the fish if they had to clean it :D

Even better, hold an auction and have people bid to feed the fish. As soon as paying money is mentioned, I'm sure no one will want to feed the fish anymore. :p

I like that idea too. Tell them the money goes towards the fishes gastric bybass surgery because they eat too much :hyper:

Archer fish train em to shoot at everyone except you. cat psychology if your cat claws at your expensive couch squirt it with water each time it does it soon gets the message if I touch that i'll get wet so i wont touch it

Thanks everyone.
To be honest I'm so reluctant to hand over feeding to the others- although really it does not bother me so much, I only do it cos there's nothing else to do when I come in- because I have seen how much they throw in! I have begged, I have pleaded. I have pointed out that fish have teeny little stomachs, I have said the more you feed them the less of it they'll eat the more will build up in the water. It's killing them with kindness. No effect.
It's just so annoying. I do think measuring out the food into daily amounts and just giving a teeny pinch is an excellent idea! I will have to get stuff together and try that!

Go over to their houses and stuff their kids with obscene amounts of candy and caffiene. When the kids throw up, just shrug and say... but he looked hungry! Or put up a sign that says You feed 'em, you clean 'em.

I find that it helps to explain things in terms a child can understand... nevermind that your coworkers aren't children, it's the same principle!
Tell them the fish have already been fed, and that if they are fed too often they will get tummyaches. Nobody wants the poor fish to have upset tummies, do they?
Alternatively, hide the food and pretend you have no clue where it is
