Some info I found on them;

They are selectively bred forms of regular Neons, After centuries of inbreeding, freaks will occasionally crop up, breeding 2 together will create a better ratio of freaks to normal ones, Gradually the freaks are line bred with the longer finnage being chosen each time and inbreeding fixes the strain after many generations,

Lol I'm guessing your not a fan then? - overuse of 'freaks'? Certainly unusual!

Its not that I don't like them, they just look unnatural.

But a big shoal of these would still look immense

Meh, I'm not keen. They don't look too bad though; not like long finned oscars, that just look like rugby players in drag ;)

Ha ha I haven't seen those! Yes I would totally agree :D

I'm not a fan. See how the one on the right has torn fins? Neons can be nippy, especially if in a smaller school, so this is sort of just demanding that they tear each other up. It's the same principle as long-finned serpae tetras.

LOL!!!

They are pretty in their own right I suppose...

But would be a tradgedy to see them commonly available. Have seen them on supplier lists if you dont mind buying 150 small ones at about £10+ a fish!

But it will effect the way they swim and thus how they shoal, means they will struggle a lot more, not be able to escape when chased and will be no end of fin rot and nipping issues.

I dont see good coming of it, their end up as bad as long finned siamese fighters... weak and unable to swim properly and with bad attitudes that get themselves killed.

Saw some of these yesterday @ £2.20 each, compared to the £1.50 for a standard Tetra, was tempted by it, but I've got Gourami's and they tend to nip the fins!
