In general, I find vals to be much harder than 'expert' sites would suggest. I haven't had much luck with vals in softer water. CO2 via injection or flourish excel...vals have only done well in my tanks when I've had neither...just my experience. When vals take off, they are simply a great plant :)

well one of mine has sent out a few runners but they look a bit limp

Liquid Carbon will only be detrimental to Vallis if over dosed, standard dosing is fine.

so i'm best off dosing just under the required dose? i think thats what i will do in future i will put in 9ml instead of 10ml and see how i get on

Dose the recommended amount, just be careful not to go too far over, a small over dose shouldn't have any detrimental affect, but if you ignore the instructions completely, that's where you'll encounter problems.

i have only dosed the recommended amount but i think it has damaged them when i do a water change as you dose a larger amount, i might just use dechlorinator for water changes and put in 9ml every other day and see how that goes.

to echo what SBS is saying, using the standard dose and not OD'ing has never caused a problem in my tanks.

how big is the tank Jim?

and it really should be dosed daily, as the active product has a 12-24 hour halflife.

the tank is a new type juwel rio 300, so its 350 ltrs. it says on the bottle to use every other day and when you do a water change?

really? I'm sure it says daily or every other day...daily is better. It's going to work out an expesive way to dose your tank with excel, have you thought about pressurised C02?

Daily is definitely better, Glutaraldehyde decomposes after 24 hours, if it recommends 9Ml's every 2 days, then do 4.5Ml's daily.

IME, vallis tends to be one of those kinds of plants that'll either grow like wildfire for you, or just die on you. For me it's the latter. It just melts on me nomatter what I do and so I've given up on it. But for other people regardless of fertilisers etc it will grow like mad. For an alleged easy plant to grow, it certainly seems to be pretty picky :p
