I am going on some vacations this summer, and what do you use to feed your fish. i saw some automatic fish feeders at petsmart that drop fish food in at certain times or do you buy those 3 day or whatever things out put at the bottom of the tank.
It depends on how long you plan on going away for....if it is only for a few days at a time your fish should be OK without food. If it is for an extended time I would recommend an automatic feeder which feeds the fish a set amount of food at certain times of the day (runs off a battery0.
Hi there, what length of time will you be gone in a stretch. I have a tank at the school that I work at that I feel comforitable leaving unfed for up to 10 days. Never had a loss of life from it and I'd rather not leave the feeding to someone that would overfeed... Hope this helps.
I use tablets when we go away for the weekend, and they work fine. Although I do tend to be an overfeeder ) (BEFORE YOU GET MAD, THE DANG FISH FOOD BOTTLE SAYS AS MUCH AS THEY EAT IN 2 MINUTES, 2-3X A DAY) I only feed 1-2x a day. Momma always said "the food is the love " (I'm lucky I'm not 300lbs!) lol
About those 3 day feeder shells, I would not use them because they are composed with low quality fish fool mixed with plaster of Paris! also, they are more available to bottom feeders like cories than your other fish like danios
A week at most? Then I wouldn't feed them at all with any of the "weekend" feeders of the timer ones that feed when you are gone. More can go wrong that way then just not feeding them wile you're away. Honest, for most fish a fast is just fine.
the thing I worry about the most is water changes. The 50gal is not mine and I look after it for someone else. In the summer I won't be able to look after it. I get them to feed it but water change is out of the question. So I'm going to keep it seriously understocked so tha water changes can be skimmped on although this solution is far from perfect.
Feed them a lot before you leave so every one is nice and fat and then let them fast for a week. Bettas can go a few weeks without food (don't try it) and the other fish should be fine. The weekend feeders would only feed the bottom feeders. If you have live plants and a well cyled tank they should be able topick off of the plants or pick little organsms out of the water. I believe that clown loaches eat snails so you coul probably get a few. An alternative would be to have a neighbor feed them or get an automatic feeder $$$ I would just not feed them at all. Fish don't get a food stick every other day in th wild
