Hi, please can you tell me if it costs a lot to run a UV system on a marine tank?

Roughly how much money a day (GBP)

Thanks

Darrell

I'm not certain what the cost is but it shouldn't be much. I would assume it isn't any different for marine vs freshwater. If you run it off a canister filter, the only additional cost would be what it costs to burn a 9 to 18 watt bulb around the clock. If you run it straight off a power head as I'm doing, then you also have the cost of running the power head. In either case, I wouldn't think we are talking about much money.

I run it through the filter therefore the water is filtered before it goes into the UV. Seems to work good. What he said too, its only around 8-12W depending on which one you have. Most filters run above 15W at least externals. Think of it this way, PC's can use up to 500W depending on what it's configuration and equipment.

So 9W isn't a big deal. :)

Thank you. Have have made my day, this thread was left blank for a long time.

Which algae does it keep at bay? Hair, slime etc?

I will invest in one soon.

floating algae aka (green water syndrome) is about the only algae it will affect-Anne

beblondie is correct about the green water being all it will remove. Besides algae though, it will also kill ich that is free floating in the water.

As a side note, here is a link to a post I just did in the Chit Chat section showing the day to day results on my 29 gallon.
