Uv Sterilizer Questions

iv done a bit of research on these things because up until now i knew nothing about them

and it got me thinking, is there any possible way i can construct one of these by myself instead of buying one?
also since a uv sterilizer is basically a pipe containing a UV bulb that lets water pass through the uv light, couldnt the same or similar effect be produced by placing UV leds in the hood pointing down at the water?

please dont bash me on this one, im just curious
and since i dont have a job right now i cant really afford to buy a new one, so im trying to find a way to recreate the same or similar effect without spending much money

i wouldn't make a uv sterilizer myself because exposure to uv light can cause permanent tissue damage.

instead, i'd shell out 30 or 50 bucks for an internal uv sterilizer. you can see a review of the 9w version on my website. a 9w is for tanks up to 53g and a 24w for tanks up to 106g.

humm an interesting project. but the danger of exposure to the UV, could make things hard. but apart from that, i guess you could!
