ok i have a question about uv steralizers, do they honestly help out a lot? Like do they take out the good stuff also? My main reason for asking is i have a pond uv steralizer, a Laguna PowerClear 1000, for ponds up to 1000 gallons, can i hook this up to my canister filter or will this not work? please help if u can

My understanding is that Pond UV lamps are not Ideal for Marine tank use as they work slightly different. The area inside the lamp where the water flows is greater on a pond UV lamp. The water in a marine UV flows faster and closer to the light source.

A Pond UV is mainly used to keep water clear but a marine UV is a sterilizer.

I might be wrong.

They are a must in a tank ever since I brought one Iv'e had much more luck.

It doesn't really matter whether it's a pond UV or an aquarium UV as they both work on the same basic design. All you would need to do is adjust the flow throught the unit, the slower the flow the more exposure to UV and the more things get zapped.

The wattage will make a big difference though as too high a wattage will kill off too much even at a low flow rate.

Ok the wattage is 8watts, and you can find it online to see anything else about it, i dont know how to adjust the flow on it, it owuld be going through my xp3 which is 350 gph, and the max flow of the UV steralizer is 500gph. will this work or am i wasting ym time? thanks!

8watts is a pretty standard size UV filter. I've got a 9w one on order.

so will the laguna powerclear 1000 work for my system or not? also, what are the pros and cons to a uv steralizer? is ti really good to use them or do they kill off the good too?

Yes (make sure its got saltwater safe components)
Pros - They kill parasites
Cons - They kill other micro-organisms as well
Yes
A Little

Sorry I had to be so brief, I only had a couple of minutes.
And my broadband connection isn't working in the evenings for some reason???
I will make a more thorough post later if I am able.
