Uv Light Question - Best Way To Hook Up

So, I'm thinking of getting a UV sterilizer for my 55 gallon tank. It has a HOB filter, not a canister. What is the best way to hook up the UV sterilizer so that it gets some water flow? I can't figure out a way to hook it up to my HOB filter. As far as I can tell, I have 3 options:

1. Get a cheap canister filter. Hook up UV unit in the return line to the tank. I assume canister filters come with built in water pumps - I don't need to purchase a water pump seperately with a canister filter?

2. Get the UV filter, and a water pump. Run hoses from tank, to water pump, to UV unit, and back to tank

3. Get a powerhead, and maybe there is a way to connect the UV sterilizer to that?


Please, let me know which way would be the best, thanks.

you can get stand alone uv filters that fit into the tank. but they do take up alot of room....
