As a title suggests can the UV light substitude for algea eater?

Any advice. Pro/Cons

Thanks

(I am not a big fan of pleco's. I do have one in the tank but i am very unhappy about his huge/excesive waste problems :shout: . lol )

UV lights will only remove floating algae, anything that is stuck onto plants/glass etc will not be affected. Plecs are actually quite lazy when they get older and will not eat that much algae. Plus most plecs get to be quite gigantic (12inches +) so you need a big tank for them.

have you thought about a couple of otocinculis? (think thats spelled right)

They get no more than an inch and a half long and do a great job of munching algae

I use both. 2BH, i dont really rate the UV filters much. IMO, its nice to have, but not necessary. Also u can make 1 for a fraction of the price! Well not make 1, fit the parts together for one.
