UV and Ferts

My understanding is that UV sterilization (just the UV bulb) should not  .... But if the water is also being filtered within the UV unit then they may use activated carbon and this will definitely get rid of a few of the elements.

UV sterilisers are good against living organic matter, (parasites, bacteria etc.), most trace elements used by plants are inorganic and not touched by it. There is some evidence that "chelated" or "colloidal" suspensions can be disrupted by strong UV, but the jury is still out on that one.

A UV on a freshwater tank is something of a luxury in my opinion.
