Also keep in mind your color selection. I've found that in unrelated female community tanks, if you have a red female, nine times out of ten she will be your Alpha. Reds are just more radiantly aggressive than other colors. Except in rare instances, opaque or light-colored females will be lower on the totem pole (this does not apply to cambodian red females, who can be just as aggressive as solid reds). Of course, like all rules there are exceptions, and one should by no means take this as gospel law -- just as a guideline.

Other aggressive female bettas are plakats and crowntails. They seem to get meaner faster than longfinned varieties, and can fight longer and more viciously. This is by no means said to discourage you from your female community tank plans, just to give you a heads up. The personalities of all females are different, and should be dealt with on an individual basis

hmm, i had a solid red female vt and a red cambodian hm in my unrelated group of females, though the cambo was a jerk, my white and pale green marble ct was THE boss of that group, no fish could rest if that one wasnt happy. I didnt see a problem with my red girls.

My tiniest fish, a red cambo, is definitely the boss in mine. She's not mean but she's definitely the boss! But don't be too concerned, there is another red cambo in there and she's not aggressive at all. Very nice fish to everyone, even the tetras.

Mine take turns at being boss, however my red ct has never been far up in the ranks, my most aggresive female is my bi coloured cambodian ct, she's not even the biggest in the tank but she'll warn all the others away from her lol

as much as the website is quiet good, i feel that this is just taken from personal experience from observations and nothing to do with actual facts regarding the temperment of different coloured bettas from detailed worldwide research. I see it as complete nonsense to be honest. Each betta is different in every single way. I could quite easily say that the last tank of females i had had 10 red and one blue and the blue was the nasty one and then go on the net and tell people that the blues are the trouble makers....

I completely agree! They all seem so different you can't go by the book just by your own observations.
