Hiya, will dechlorinator/stress coat have a negative effect on my liquid fertilizer? as in the instructions for using liquid fert it states that water conditioners will have a negative effect on nutrient supplements. :/

I have never heard that. They might be talking about carbon - carbon in your filter is said to remove the nutrients.

Hi Jen,

I have removed my carbon sponge , i don't think they are talking about the sponge as they mention that it should be removed.

well not useing dechlorinator will have a very negative effect on your fish.

I can assure you my plants are alive and well (along with my fish) and i use dechlor every week at water change, so the answer is no, it will not have an effect on your fertiliser as i dose that all week long.

Hi Zig, .Yes I agree obviously no dechlorintor will have a Neg effect on fish (death)... but does it have a neg effect on flourishing the plants? You say that your plants are alive and well , but so are mine and that is without using the liquid fert,.. The question I am asking is, .. will using water cond' eg.. dechlor',have a negative effect on feeding my plants?

No it won't

Not entirely true. If you have a heavily planted tank and dose Nitrates, avoid using Amquel+, it removes a significant portion of Nitrates, like 13ppm. It will make dosing Nitrates a waste of time. I made that booboo because I had to do a WC and ran out of what I normally use which is Tetra Aquasafe and I kept trying to figure out why I was testing less than 5ppm Nitrates. Duhhhh! This is according to the package label. A standard dechlorinator is fine, just make sure it doesn't remove ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates, as these are used by plants. As far as heavy metals, some dechlorinators also remove them, but I don't know how it would effect fertilization other than trace elements. Obviously, you must use dechlorinator, just avoid ones that remove the nitrogen compounds.

Felt like a real dork! :fun:

I was referring to just dechlorinators - one's that remove chlorine. There's a big difference between dechlorinators and water conditioners.
