I've got some Nutrafin Cycle, is it a good idea or beneficial to add this whilst im doing my fishless cycle to lower the ammonia and add bacteria or not?

Hi Matt,

In theory, it is a good idea and should speed up the cycle time somewhat. In practice, however, many members on TFF (including myself) will tell you that Nutrafin Cycle doesn't live up to its claims of housing live bacteria cultures, as we don't believe it to be scientifically possible for the bacteria to survive in such an environment. Undoubtedly, the bacteria were alive when the stuff was bottled, but by the time it reaches you, we are very doubtful of its effectiveness.

If I remember correctly, one of our members cycled two tanks simultaneously adding Nutrafin Cycle to one, and no supplements to the other. Both tanks took exactly the same time to cycle. Not conclusive but i think it gives a good indication of the products effectiveness.

It certainly won't hurt to add it, but whether it will actually have any positive effect is doubtful.

One thing which certainly will help is if you can get some mature filter media from someone who has an established tank. Have a look in the pinned thread in the 'New to the Hobby' sction to see if anyone willing to donate some is listed in your area.

Hope this helps you. :good:
