Using Breeder Trap The Other Way Around To Safe A Fry

I saw 2 unexpected guppy frys this morning, didn't have time to get them out of the main tank. When I got home there is one at the air stone, he was blended in. I tried to catch him using a few times but failed. So I took the breeder trap up side down and covered him inside. I hope he can survive in it.

You must just keep in mind that you now have stagnant uncirculated water underneath that trap (which would not be a problem in the short term) and then feeding could also be a bit of a problem as the flakes (or whatever you're feeding) will have to be directed at the openings at the botton/(now top) of the trap...

I'm ordering some plastic short plants, hopefully it will give the fry(or frys in there are any other survivors) some better hidding place. I was using a small net to direct the flakes over the trap and went in there, the fry could ate some. I saw it went outside the trap and went back in

You might want to move your trap back to the surface as it was meant to be used. Go ahead and use the insert that closes off the rodded area at the trap bottom so that the fry you have won't drop through into the main tank. As Ludwig has said, the present situation is not the best of circumstances for long term fry care.

I was going to try get it back in the breeder trap again but it disappeared after I ate dinner, last time I saw it was outside the trap. Now I have rash skin allergy all over me, I don't really want to get my hands in the tank. But thanks for the tip guys, I'll fix it as soon as I can.

I never have too many problems with fry surviving to be honest. I have a large java fern growing out of a volcano rock and a HUGE java moss ball. Took some time to grow, but it was well worth it! The traps never worked for me, I even lost one of me females in one due to stress. Personally, I recommend large plants and hiding places.

You need to find out what is causing that skin reaction. One thing known to cause some people problems is handling brine shrimp but something is affecting you. These things only get worse so find out why you are reacting. I can mess around in a tank all day with no reaction but we are all different.

I have a silver dollar in my tank so there is no live plant for the frys to hide, it even destroyed my plastic plant. My female guppies don't like the breeder trap either, they go crazy if I try to put them in there. There isn't much hiding place in my tank and I haven't saw any frys in the last 24 hours. The plastic plants I ordered still waiting for delivery, I think it's too late, but hopefully it will be useful for the future frys.

Doctor said it's allergy due to weather change
It comes and gone, I just have to take some meds whenever they appear again, he said nothing to do with my fish tank habit so that's a good thing

That is a good thing. I have known rather dedicated fish keepers that had to avoid specific live and frozen foods due to allergies.

I'd probably put the silver dollar in another tank, or ever the pregnant female guppy. Your not going to have much success with a fish like that in the same tank. If you want to get serious about breeding guppies, a fry tank is the way to go
