Used Test Kits

ive been offered a nutrifin complete test kit one of them what comes in a little case it covers(PH LOW RANGE, PH HIGH RANGE, IRON, NITRITE, PHOSPHATE, AMMONIA, NITRATE, CALCIUM, GENERAL HARDNESS AND CARBONATE HARDNESS)

it is approx 18 months old been used about 5 times last time about 2 months ago there are no use by dates on the bottles

is it worth buying?

do these test kits have a shelf life once opened?

my advice is always buy one with an expiry date as I have found old kits are not accurate.

I recommend liquid test kit or dry tab as the litmus paper tests are useless

whats the price? if its like $20 thats a deal and might be worth it. all those kits new are probably $60+

ive had it offered it to me for a £10 but if the tests are no good because they have been opened for a while maybe it might be better not to have it.

mind you i suppose i could buy it test the water in my tank then take sample in my local shop and ask them to check it for me then then see if they get same results

sounds like a plan to me... it would at least get you started for way less than 1/4 the price of all those kits combined. the longevity wont be the best, but when tests start failing you can just buy new.
