Over the coming weekend I shall be swapping out one of my filters with a second double canned Turbo.

The existing filter has sponges that I would like to preserve for later reuse if possible.

What would be the options on doing this please?

Thinking sealing in airtight bag/container with a little aquarium water in fridge or maybe freezer?

Looking to keep them for around 6 months minimum......basically they are the sponges in my UV filter and have lots of the good stuff living on them, wanting to keep the sponges safe and secure on a just incase of trouble basis rather than having to buy new ones later.

Thank you in advance

I'm really not sure, but freeing may work. Freezing does not kill bacteria, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be good to go in the filter when defrosted. I've not heard of anyone doing that personally, but a quick google finds this which may be useful:-
