I was wondering if a could use a 500w flooflight to light the front of the tank. That is to be placed a certain distance on front of the front glass of the plant and light the tank. It seems that the 19w ofer my 20L tank are not enough and I thought that by having a spotlight to accomodate the tanks lighting for a few hours a day, I could grow glossostigma properly.

This is the floodlight

Your thoughts?

I think you'll either suffocate the rest of the plants from immense algae growth, or boil your tank.

But I'm far from an expert, just taking a wild guess.

It will certainly be bright :D

Agree with pseud your tank water will be bubbling to boiling point in no time the heat will probably kill your plants and fish in the process.

It's a hugely powerful light in terms of wattage and the heat it would throw out would be a nightmare, I recently tried making my own ballast out of two 150w MH outside lights by taking them apart and screwing them onto a strip of wood. Even though testing the effect on a tank it did look really good practically I thought this is just madness, plus the bulbs are different sizes. There are some good sites around the net for building your own lights as MH lights I think are terribly overpriced, but it appears the trade has us, its customers over a barrel on that one.
