I urge anyone that loves or owns these snakes go to this site and leave a comment against this ban..
Please show your support by reading this article. The link to leave a comment is near the bottom of the article.
All comments must be received before March 31st!!! not April 30th as so stated in the article..
Thanks all!

it's probably to do with people lettng them go and now there are wild populations competing with endemic species. National Geographic did a documentary on gators vs pythons and had some incredible footage of snakes with gators in them and vice versa.

I was very much under the impression that all the "feds" had done is send out questionnaires asking what kinds of pets and how many people have so as to gain a picture of what is actually going on with exotic animals across the country, am I wrong?

While I can 100% see the side of responsible boa owners, isn't there also a problem with lots of irresponsible folks purchasing snakes then doing a miserable job caring for them? It seems to me that maybe phasing out legal ownership of certain exotics wouldn't be a terrible thing.

I know that I'd definitely support heavier regulations on the ownership of exotic birds and increased expenses in fish-keeping (just enough to make common fish more valuable, mind). But I'm not familiar enough with the size of the "terrible snake owner" population to decide whether or not such a ban wouldn't benefit the snakes in the long run.

Would anyone care to persuade me? I like being persuaded. :)

IMHO the major thing about banning animals and things people want is that the only people that will generally have them after a ban are "bad" people. (you might say not all would be bad, but would law abiding citizens have the animal still? If so then they are bad)

They'd buy black market animals and such. It's hard to say if they should regulate more or not. How's the govt doing with what they're already regulating? I think that to some extent the people that sell the animals should be held accountable (no idea how) for selling the animals. They should be able to tell, esp. by asking ?, if the buyer knows what he/she is doing or not. They can reserve the right to deny sale. I've heard of a few places already doing that.

Thats just my 2 cents....take it for what it's worth! ;)
